National Commission for BCs

• The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) was set up in 1993.
• The 102nd Amendment Act of 2018 conferred a constitutional status on the Commission.
• The new Article 338-B is inserted in the constitution.
• Now it is a constitutional body.
• A chairperson, a vice-chairperson and three other members are appointed by the President.
• They hold office for a term of three years.
• The Commission presents an annual report to the President.
• The President places all such reports before the Parliament.
• Mandal case (1992), Indra Sawhney Vs. Union of India (1992) are related to Backward Classes.
